This is Me - Dinner Heaven

This is a post included in the This is Me series where I answer 1001 questions about myself as writing practice. Each post consists of me answering 5 questions about myself. Wanna share what you would answer to any or all of the questions? Do it in the comments section!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CUISINE?

If the decision were up to me about what restaurant to go to for the evening and these were my following choices - BBQ, Mexican, Sushi, Thai, Chinese, Italian or a Steakhouse I would likely choose Italian 8 times out of 10. I say 8 out of 10 because we have lived in a lot of places and if we were visiting one of those place, my decision might be swayed because of a favorite restaurant in that area that I don't get to frequent.

If we are visiting New Mexico, Sadies is at the top of the list mainly because of their guaco taco and their salsa is to die for. If we are stopping by the PNW, Pho from pretty much anywhere is headed right to the top of the list. If we are visiting NJ (which we wouldn't really ever do but hey...we did live here so....) we would be grabbing sesame bagels with chive cream cheese and pizza for dinner. There is seriously nothing like a NJ bagel or pizza.

And here in TX, well you really can't go wrong with BBQ. From anywhere.

I do love me some Italian food though. Bring on the pasta! Maybe it's because I am half Italian? I'm not sure, but it is for sure something I will choose often (if I'm allowing myself some carbs that day.) ;-)

IF YOU WERE A DISH, WHAT KIND OF DISH WOULD IT BE?

Speaking of Italian...I don't necessarily know that I would want to BE a dish...but if I could eat anything...often...without consequence, I think it would take me quite a while to tire of blackened chicken or salmon fettuccini Alfredo. Better yet, I would take blackened chicken, salmon and some steak tips on top of my buttery, crisp and creamy Alfredo sauce slurped up with some perfectly al dente noodles to really be in dinner heaven.

WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL WOULD YOU BE?

I don't know that I would choose to be any animal because I enjoy being able to contemplate my own existence. Do animals do that? I don't know that they do.

But the spirit of the question is maybe, what characteristics of an animal do you relate to or do you think represents who you are as a person? If that is the case, I would for sure answer a dog mainly because the unconditional love a dog has for its owner is what I would love to exemplify. If only I could be as excited and enthusiastic every single time Paul came home...Dogs are also such great companions. They want to be around you. They want to please you and make you happy. It's an amazing gift that God has given us in these furry little friends.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BREAKFAST FOOD?

Bacon. I don't think there is much more to say about that.

ARE YOU A LIGHT PACKER?

I am not a light packer but I am an efficient packer. I like to be prepared but I don't go overboard. When I'm getting dressed for the day, how I'm feeling that day really determines what I choose to wear. So if I bring specific outfits for certain days of my trip and then something goes wrong or I'm not feeling great about how I'm looking that might really affect things. I'm also not great at "dressing up" or knowing how to dress for certain occasions sometimes, which stresses me out. Getting dressed every day is actually something that causes me a lot of anxiety and stress mainly because I don't like being uncomfortable and being a person who has a lot of extra weight on my body, I'm pretty much uncomfortable in most clothes.

All of that to say that I will pack as efficiently as possible without trying to bring my entire closet. I bring enough so that I at least have some options and something that will work for various different types of occasions.

I need to stop writing about this right now because it's starting to stress me out.

DOGS OR CATS?

When my mom brought me home from the hospital, her wiener dog Buffy hated me. She was already kind of on the older side, so she died well before we could actually connect, but I like to think that eventually, I grew on her.

When I was in elementary school, someone at a church picnic was getting rid of a litter of mutts, and of course, I wanted one desperately. Dad said we could only get one if he was able to name it Guido.

Guido was a great companion all through high school, but after we said goodbye to him I decided I was obsessed with the Shar-Pei breed. We named her Dallas after my favorite football team at the time. We didn't know then that Shar-Pei's actually get pretty big and can be pretty aggressive!

After I moved out and left Dallas with my parents, I was dogless for a long while. After I got my own one bedroom apartment however, I decided it was time for my own dog. Not long after I brought home a cute little Yorkie and named him Sam. And a week later I changed his name to Guinness.

Guinness was my faithful companion for about a year and a half before I decided he needed a buddy. I saw an add for another Yorkie, but when I went to see him, this other sweet dog stole my heart. Her name was Lucy and she was the sweetest little Morkie you ever did see. I changed her name to Chloe and we became our own little family.

Guinness and Chloe traveled with me from Alb to Seattle and not long after that, I met my beau who at the time had a stinky Cocker Spaniel named Toby.

We were a three dog family until Chloe met an untimely demise at the hand of a neighbor dog who got through our fence. I was devastated. But having three dogs is a challenge so we decided to just enjoy Guinn and Toby for the time being. Toby passed when we were living in NJ due to old age and ailments. Guinness traveled with us as we moved back to WA from NJ. He was getting up there in age at that point and was starting to loose his hearing and his sight. We decided to get another pup at that point and Stella entered our lives. She was a Havanese which neither Paul or I had ever heard of but her picture on Craigslist stole both our hearts. We brought her home knowing that Guinness wouldn't last long so we decided go look into getting another Morkie since Chloe had been such a good little gal.

Marvin the Morkie joined our family in the Fall of 2018 about 6 months after Stella. Marvin is a loud little fella and after he came home, Guinness just couldn't hang and we said goodbye to him in December of 2018. He had been with me for 15 years.

We traveled with Stella and Marvin for two years and when we settled back down, we decided we liked Havanese so much we needed another one. We brought Piper home in September of 2021 and are now back to having a pack of tripple trouble.

So to answer the question....dogs.

Also, I'm allergic to cats.
