This is Me - The Bigger Picture
This is a post included in the This is Me series where I answer 1001 questions about myself as writing practice. Each post consists of me answering 5 questions about myself. Wanna share what you would answer to any or all of the questions? Do it in the comments section!
DO YOU LIKE GOING TO THE DENTIST?
Wanna know something awful? I haven't been to the dentist in probably around 5 years. I know, I know...once you get done being utterly and completely shocked...let me explain. It's not even that I don't like going to the dentist. I don't really have a lot of teeth problems other than them being relatively crooked, but in the past five years, we have moved twice and lived on the road for two years. We also don't really have dental insurance with Paul's retirement benefits. So we would either have to find someone off dental insurance plan or pay cash. All of those obstacles in the way make it that much more difficult to go in for a regular cleaning. On top of that, I just don't really have anything going on in my mouth that needs a lot of attention. I don't eat much sugar, I scrape my teeth pretty often myself, I don't have any cavities....sooooooo there you go. I'm sure I will go again at some point especially now that we are more settled down here in Waco but so far, so good!
IS THERE SOMETHING YOU WOULD OUTLAW IF YOU COULD?
At this point in my life, I'm falling more on the side of wanting less laws rather than more. I'm also really starting to understand how you can make things "against the law" or the rules all day long, but it's really the enforcement that is the issue. If you don't have proper or consistent enforcement of a rule or a law then does it really matter? There are tons of laws on the books that are out dated and arbitrary and aren't enforced anymore. This is a bigger problem in my mind because if at some point one person gets in trouble for breaking a law that hasn't been enforced in years...then you got problems. Maybe that is what I would outlaw? I would outlaw non-enforcement of current laws. That would prompt an audit of all laws on the books and we could decide which ones we want to keep and which ones can go. A lot need to go.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SNACK?
Cheese. I always say I've never met a cheese I didn't like. Other than Swiss cheese and it's not even that I don't like it, I just feel like it doesn't have a ton of flavor. Otherwise, If I'm looking for a snack especially in the middle of the day, 9 times outta 10 I'm gonna be reaching for some cheese. It's just so satisfying!!
ARE YOU GOOD AT READING MAPS?
Not only am I good at reading maps, but I'm obsessed with maps. I have them all over my house. There is something so beautiful about a document that shows the "bigger picture". We all get so caught up in our own small life and the tiny little area of the globe that we spend our time in, that there is something almost magical about being able to see what else is out there...beyond the mile or so that we can see with our own eyes. Giving yourself that birds eye view of what is happening all around you, literally to the North, South, East and West provides valuable perspective. It helps us visually "see" that everything is so much bigger than us. If you ever want to give me a unique gift, some sort of map is never a bad idea!
ARE YOU A ROLLER COASTER PERSON OR A FERRIS WHEEL PERSON?
10000% roller coaster. Unless its one of those enclosed ferris wheels they have like in London or Las Vegas etc...But typically, bring on the coasters! I've never really been nervous about them and only once did I really not enjoy my time on a roller coaster and that was an older rickety wooden coaster that didn't even go upside down...it just banged my head against the head rest like a million times and gave me a killer headache. Other than that, I've never had a bad time on a coaster. I'll go on anything...fast, upside down, loopdie-loop. I'm in!
