Week 2 - 75D/TX Heat Wave
We’ve made it to two weeks! Hard to believe 14 days has already passed for our 75 difficult challenge.
The hardest part for me has for sure been getting outside to do my daily walk. The only reason it’s been difficult is because we are having an unprecedented heat wave here in TX and so the only time I can do it without being utterly and completely miserable is between 6:30 and 7:30am or after 9pm at night. I dislike waiting until that late to do anything because it never fails…by the time that time rolls around, doing whatever I’m supposed to do at that time ultimately becomes the LAST thing I want to do.
That means that I have to focus on getting it done in the morning but getting up at 6am has never been a strong suit of mine. Like ever. I’ve always been a night owl and not a morning person. I like to wake up slowly and then have some coffee while I read and then have the system clear out (if you catch my drift). If I did that now, I wouldn’t get getting out for the walk until around 8 or 8:30 and by then the sun is shining and even though the temps will be in the mid 80’s, it’s still pretty miserable.
BUT I have been doing it. I’ve been making it work. The other day I missed my morning walk and couldn’t walk in the evening either because of book club, so I went to Wal-Mart at around 4 and did laps around the store. That was an experience in itself! I feel like people were curious about me because I was walking faster than anyone else, didn’t have a cart and wasn’t stopping to look at anything. I passed the same employees a couple of times as well and I wondered if they noticed what I was doing. It was a good back up plan though and ended up working out pretty well so at least I know I have that in my back pocket as a backup plan.
Instagram has been pretty easy to avoid and I have been enjoying not getting sucked into the app. I’m also finding that I’m not as “influenced” to buy things that people are either sharing or that I’m seeing ads for. I do still miss some of the regular accounts that I enjoy. I have had to open it a couple of times to look something up which is kind of a funny thought, but I was disciplined and didn’t do any scrolling at all. #patontheback
The reading and the water has been fine…keeping to my eating window has also gone well and I’m more in tune with my hunger levels which has been interesting. Feeling overall better though now that I’m focused on cleaner eating and keeping my carbs and sugar really low.
The writing has been my 2nd toughest thing to keep up with mainly because it just takes a lot of time. I’m loving answering the questions in my This is Me series, but in order to write and write well, you just need time to focus. I need to continue working on clearing my schedule in order to make the time to write without feeling like I’m being unproductive. That will be a fun challenge for next week! Only 8 more weeks to go!! ha
