This is Me - Bring on the Bourbon
This is a post included in the This is Me series where I answer 1001 questions about myself as writing practice. Each post consists of me answering 5 questions about myself. Wanna share what you would answer to any or all of the questions? Do it in the comments section!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DRINK TO SIP ON WHEN SOCIALIZING?
The answer to this has changed over the years. In college, for some reason I was a Jack and Coke kind of girl. Then I got sophisticated and wine became my thing. I actually decided on New Years one year that my "thing" for the new year would be to learn all about wine. So I got a bunch of books, joined a wine of the month club and learned all the things. I still like wine, but now I'm morphing into a bourbon gal.
Super random right? Let me 'splain.
When Paul and I were traveling, randomly we ended up at the Makers Mark distillery in the middle of Kentucky. We were driving from Lexington to Nashville and there was a three hour delay on our route. We pulled over for gas and it just so happened that there was a sign pointing to Makers Mark right where we got gas. We figured, "wait in traffic for three hours or go do a tour and then potentially the traffic will clear by when we are done?" We did the latter and we are so glad that we did!
The tour was amazing and we learned so much! A while later we happened across a documentary on Hulu called "Neat" all about the history and the making of bourbon which we both found super interesting. We then decided to do a bit of the bourbon trail when we took a recent trip up to Indiana. We arranged to meet Paul's brother and wife and also our good friends Travis and Jess in Bardstown, KY to tour some of the distilleries for a few days. This was one of our favorite trips to date!
Bourbon has had a challenging history for various different reasons, but it is seeing a resurgence! Both Paul and I enjoy learning about and tasting all of the different varieties so if I'm going to be socializing any time soon, you'll likely catch me sipping a bourbon!
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO USE POWER TOOLS?
Why would I spend hours and hours watching YouTube videos learning how to use power tools when I can just go ask my hubby?
Seriously though, I love some of the DIY gals on instagram and how they do all of their home improvements on their own without a lick of help from their husbands. I mean, they are just tools, anyone can learn how to use them!
I feel the draw to do some similar house projects but the thought of spending all that time learning myself when Paul is already a master is tough for me. So for now, I'm leaving the power tools to him.
WHAT'S THE ONE THING YOU DON'T MIND DOING STEP BY STEP?
I don't mind doing anything step by step. In fact, I think most things that have steps, have them for a reason? I'm not totally sure though, I might need to think on this one longer. The first thing that really comes to mind is baking...that kind of does need to be done step by step or else you are gonna end up with something a bit stodgy right? I've watched entirely to much Great British Bake Off.
WHAT'S A PHOTOGRAPH YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO HAVE NEAR YOU?
I don't know that I always have to have it near me, but one photograph I absolutely cherish and have had framed and either in my room or office since we got married is a photo of me and Paul on our honeymoon. I distinctly remember taking it, and I think we both look so fresh and happy and we look just like how I feel like we are when we are together. It's one of my all time favorites and it makes me grateful for the technology of photography.
DO YOU LIKE TO DANCE?
Does Marvin like to bark? Sorry, that's a joke about my dog who you might not know. But if you know Marvin, you know he loooooves to say hi. Loudly.
And yes, I like to dance! I've always had decent rhythm and was on drill team in high school which was not dancing in the slightest, but it was in the next neighborhood over. I was too self conscious to dance when I was younger and my parents weren't the type to hit up the dance floor, but when I got to college and started going to frat parties...somehow all that shyness went away and I've pretty much had no problems dancing ever since. Moving your body to music and why it feels so good is one of those things that I'm not sure I'll ever practically understand.
