This is Me - Smart? or Funny?
This is a post included in the This is Me series where I answer 1001 questions about myself as writing practice. Each post consists of me answering 5 questions about myself. Wanna share what you would answer to any or all of the questions? Do it in the comments section!
WHAT ARE YOU THE PERFECT MIXTURE OF?
I answered the below question first and I'm glad I did because in answering that question, I now have an answer for this question.
I think I am a really great mix of knowledge and humor. <— That sentence doesn’t make grammatical sense but the question itself isn’t all that great either so…. ;-)
I'm not silly, but I love to look at situations and find the humor in them. I love to be sarcastic and to make jokes, never really at someones expense but rather in a way that helps us understand that life is joyful and beautiful and often, it's also absurd and deserves to be laughed at.
I also love to think very deeply and ask questions and learn and learn and learn. I've often said that I would go to school full time if I could. I dislike surface-y type conversations because I really want to understand people. So I will ask you questions, probably a lot of questions if I'm around you so watch out!
I enjoy having a good mix of both of these qualities (thanks mom and dad) because I think I'm able to relate to more people as a result. I will think with you and learn with you and then laugh with you, and dang if that ain't a great way to live.
WHO'S THE FIRST PERSON YOU WOULD THANK DURING AN ACCEPTANCE SPEECH?
I mean....it would depend on what the acceptance speech is for right? That would probably affect who the FIRST person I would thank. But overall, for any acceptance speech I would give I would for sure thank God, because nothing I have ever done in my life is or was possible without his mercy, grace and love. I would also thank Paul for being my biggest fan and supporter throughout the latter part of my life. And I would thank my parents for being a great support and encouragement for me throughout my entire life, for teaching me that I can do things that I set my mind to and to think (thanks mom) and to laugh always (thanks dad).
WHAT'S YOUR BIGGEST PET PEEVE?
I tend to be a pretty easy going person and a lot of things that people do really don't bother me all that much. I'm pragmatic and can usually see where other people are coming from and as a result, I generally don't experience a lot of annoyance when it comes to other peoples actions.
However, when people out in public are completely unaware of their surroundings, it does really grind my gears. Stopping in the flow of traffic, wandering aimlessly without looking where they are walking, looking at their phone when the occasion does not call for it (like a cashier checking you out...no seriously...it has happened more than once), all of these things really do get under my skin. Being aware of yourself and how your actions affect others in public is not super complicated and the lack of awareness communicates complete disregard of others.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING THAT CAN ALWAYS CHEER YOU UP?
Being taken care of, which if I want to get even more granular in my description, would actually entail people close in my life being very thoughtful and considerate of my feelings.
We all know to a certain extent that our family, friends and loved ones care for us, but explicit and tangible actions that show their love, care and thoughtfulness are fewer and far between. I appreciate this so much...when Paul or close friends reach out just to say hi or do something that they know I will like or appreciate out of the blue. Those types of small and thoughtful actions mean so much to me and if I'm feeling down will pull me right out of those dumps!
WHAT TIME IN THE DAY DO YOU FEEL MOST PRODUCTIVE?
I am not a morning person but I 100% feel most productive in the mornings. My energy levels are usually high and I'm not distracted with the day and everything that has occurred. My mind is fresh and ready to go.
I do need time to "wake up" though. At least an hour to an hour and a half to drink my coffee, read and generally feel ready to tackle the things I have on the to do list.
Around noon is usually when I start to loose a bit of motivation to get things done although sometimes in the afternoon between like 3-5, I also have productive periods depending on what else has happened during the day. After 5pm I am pretty much worthless. I didn’t used to be this way…it’s really only been since I’ve owned my own business and worked from home. I subconsciously feel like after 5, I’m “off work” and so I don’t want to do anything that resembles being “productive”. I think this is because there are not as clear boundaries when you work from home.
