2023 Goals + word of the year
Normally I am salivating with excitement to set new goals for a fresh year. Being a small business owner has unmercilessly taught me that unless I know exactly what I’m trying to achieve, I probably won’t actually achieve it.
But this year has been different. Mainly because for the better part of last year, I have been wandering aimlessly.
When you don’t know what’s next - the only real goal that makes sense is: Figure out what’s next.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it might not be that easy.
Regardless, I wanted to set some goals. I kept them minimal.
I have three main goals and then within each of those I have some rhythm’s that I want to incorporate for this year.
For some reason the word rhythm has really resonated with me these past few months, so I also decided to make that my word of the year.
For simplicity, I also separated my goals based on personal or business.
Personal Goals
Finish first draft of book
This has been a “back of the stack” goal for such a long time, honestly I’m tired of it just sitting there. I have some ideas about the book(s) I want to write, but I don’t have a “platform” to help make anything come of it and I’ve been letting that get in my way. I worry so much that no one will ever read my words, and I need to stop and trust in God that he has given me this desire for a reason and he will do with it what he will.
To that end, I want to have something drafted and finished by the end of the year. I can’t wait to see what I come up with!
Rhythms I will be incorporating this year: writing daily in some form. Instagram, blog, newsletter, behind the scenes. I’ve been putting off writing for too long because I don’t have a “plan” and I want to throw off that mindset this year.
Feel good finances
While I feel moderately good about the system we have to keep track of our finances, I feel like lately its felt more “out of control” which leads me to the assumption that I need to create something new to keep things organized, tracked and budgeted.
I don’t have a way to track this yet, so I need to come up with some guidelines so I will know that I am successful.
Be at goal weight by our next cruise
Weight loss goals are always a tricky thing. So personal, vulnerable. I have a lot to unpack in the near future regarding my lifelong struggle with weight, food and exercise, but for now I have an idea in mind about where I’d like to be by our next cruise, which sails on Nov 26th.
I know how to get there, I’ve done it before, but I’ve learned from the last time and this time I’m going to make some changes in how I implement. Rhythms and monthly goals regarding walking, resistance exercise and tracking food will be a part of it. Honestly most nervous about this one because this feels like an area of my life I constantly “fail” at even though I know that’s not true.
Rhythm’s I will be incorporating: Setting monthly goals for walking, stretching, resistance training, and various goals with food intake (low carb/no sugar etc…). I’ve never done it quite this way before and I’m already loving it a couple of weeks in. I’m hopefully I’ll be able to maintain these rhythms for the year so they almost become 2nd nature.
Business Goals
Maintain minimal growth
Last year my gross earnings grew slightly. I’d like to maintain that minimum growth through 2023. Things are flowing nicely with my business, my systems and workflows are working well. We are seeing some hesitation due to the market/inflation, but if we stay consistent and persistence, we should be able to maintain or see slight growth.
Refresh/New offerings
I have a few coaching offerings that have gone “stale” over the past year or so. I’m going to rework some of them, freshen up a couple and create a couple of new offerings. I don’t have solid goals yet around each of these, but once I have them created, I will set some.
